I would like to introduce myself, I’m Saira Ashford of the Little cottage Cakery, in Rainford.
For some time now, (4 years actually!) I have been running my own business making a variety of celebration cakes. I am totally self-taught, addicted to watching You Tube ‘How to’ videos and following lots of fabulous cake designers on Instagram.
As you might see from my Facebook page photo albums I have had some challenges when it comes to specific designs and overcome them with the help of my great cake community on social media. Being challenged can be a good thing too, it helps you grow and learn new ways of doing things, adapting to the needs of the customer and recognising trends. This is one of the reasons I decided to start sharing my knowledge with others.
Starting with the basics for those of you who have probably had a go at baking and not felt happy with the result is the best foundation for success. Some of my classes focus on the fundamentals of baking and cake decorating, whilst others offer a more confident baker how to decorate a cake that looks professional. The more advanced classes concentrate on perfecting specific types of design and trends - I like to offer a wide variety of classes for all abilities as I believe that everyone should be able to channel creativity and passion for baking by developing their skills. This including skills ranging from using buttercream and ganche to sugar flowers and modelling characters.
Every season there are new and exciting subjects for you to indulge in, as for instance, in the spring I concentrate on Mother’s Day and Easter projects and in the autumn I design new classes for Halloween and Christmas, homemade goodies that you can easily recreate at home and give away as gifts.
Some of the classes are suitable for teenagers and children, who are accompanied by an adult during Easter, Halloween and Christmas periods.
I'm working on the samples for new classes and there will be modelling as well as buttercream painting, cakesicles, various fun Christmas projects and a couple of kids classes at Halloween and Christmas to name a few. I’m excited and can’t wait to show you!
